Flooded rivulet breaches embankment in Saptari

SAPTARI: The swollen Khado rivulet in Saptari district has breached the embankment constructed at Tilathi Koiladi rural municipality-1 in the district.

The flood triggered by the torrential rain occurred since Thursday breached the embankment at two places, resulting in inundation of the human settlements.

Five houses have already been inundated, according to Tilathi Koiladi rural municipality Ward No 1 Chair, Dineshwor Mishra. The embankment was constructed to protect the villages in the surrounding of the rivulet.

The rain had stopped at Friday noon due to which flood entering the village began to recede, informed a local Khojendra Mishra. The local authority has provided 300 sacks and two gabion wire to repair the damaged embankment. After the flood receded, locals and the security personnel began fixing the embankment. Ward No 1, 9 and 10 of Rajbiraj municipality have been waterlogged. Chief District Officer in Saptari, Surendra Poudel, asked all the locals here to remain alert for the flood because the monsoon was already active across the country.
