KATHMANDU: The Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) has remained closed for five hours after an aircraft of Yeti Airlines skidded off the runway on Friday morning. It is still unclear when the country’s only international airport will resume its operation.
TIA Managing Director Raj Kumar Chhetri said that attempts are being made to tow the aircraft to a hangar. Personnel from Nepal Police, Nepal Army and technicians from Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) have been mobilized to tow the aircraft are having a tough time due to rainfall.
He said that it is unclear when the only international airport will resume its operation.
“We have mobilized all the available resources. Operating the airport is not possible until the aircraft is towed to the hangar,” he said.
Two people suffered injuries after the aircraft has met with an accident while landing at 11:05 am.
