If found involved in gold smuggling, govt will take action against Maoist Center Vice Chair Mahara: DPM Shrestha



KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha has assured that if CPN-Maoist Center Vice Chairman Krishna Bahadur Mahara is found involved in the 9 kg gold smuggling case, the government would take action against him as well.

Inaugurating a special campaign launched by the Maoist Center in Lalitpur on Saturday, also a prominent leader of the party DPM Shrestha said that Mahara will not be spared just because he is a Maoist leader provided found guilty of smuggling.

“It has been said that the leader of Maoist Center has been linked to the 9 kg gold case. Whoever it is, whatever the post of the leader in the party, if it is confirmed that they are involved in the crime, the government will not spare them”, he said, adding, “I feel there might be attempts to discourage the government from taking action against the guilty; however, the government will act strictly against the corrupt irrespective of their party affiliation.

Confessing that the party’s popularity had decreased alarmingly in the past, he claimed that with the wise leadership of party Chairman and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ the party will regain its previous popularity and strength.
