HoR likely to reconvene following Monday’s all party meeting: RSP Chair Lamichhane

KATHMANDU: Rabi Lamichhane, the chairman of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has indicated that the resumption of parliamentary proceedings is anticipated after an upcoming meeting on Monday.

Participating in a meeting convened by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ with representatives from national parties represented in the Parliament, Lamichhane, on Sunday afternoon, conveyed that a potential agreement is expected to be reached on Monday, paving the way for the reopening of the House.

“We’re attending this gathering for the first time. The leader of the main opposition party, KP Oli, was absent due to health reasons,” stated Lamichhane during an interaction with reporters at Singh Durbar. “We are nearing an accord. Tomorrow’s scheduled meeting is likely to solidify this attempt.”

Lamichhane elaborated that a potential complication could arise if an investigative high-level committee is already established in the gold case. He indicated a 15-day extension for the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police to conduct its ongoing inquiry, a request made by Home Minister Narayankaji Shrestha.

As per Lamichhane, today’s House of Representatives session is poised for postponement. An all-party meeting has been scheduled for Monday at 4 pm. Moreover, Prime Minister Dahal assembled a gathering of seven parties at Singh Durbar earlier today.

The main opposition party, UML, has been obstructing parliamentary proceedings by demanding the formation of a high-level committee to probe the gold smuggling case. President Ram Chandra Paudel, Speaker Devraj Ghimire, and Prime Minister Dahal are collectively initiating efforts to address the parliamentary impasse.
