PM Dahal engages in talks with major party leaders to end Parliament obstruction

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” is holding a discussion with leaders from seven political parties to address the parliamentary impasse.

The discussion with these national parties is scheduled for today at noon at the Prime Minister’s Office in Singha Durbar.

According to Prime Minister’s press advisor, Govinda Acharya, PM Dahal has engaged in dialogue at the Prime Minister’s Office in Singha Durbar, with the top leaders of nationally recognized parties as part of an effort to overcome the current parliamentary obstruction.

However, CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli did not turn up in the meeting.

In the preceding election, the CPN-UML, Nepali Congress, CPN-Maoist Center, Rastriya Swatantra Party, Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Janata Samajwadi Party, and Janamat Party successfully met the criteria and achieved national party status.

The primary opposition party, CPN-UML, has been stalling parliamentary proceedings, urging the establishment of a high-level committee to investigate a case of gold smuggling.

Prime Minister Dahal has proactively taken steps to alleviate the impasse within the Parliament.

The Department of Revenue Investigation had on July 19 confiscated gold which had been brought through Tribhuvan International Airport by evading the airport customs and security from local Sinamangal.

The main opposition party has been demanding for formation of a high-powered probe committee to investigate into this scam.

The government and the parties in the ruling alliance have rebuffed this demand and have insisted that the matter would be investigated into by government bodies responsible for the investigations.
