Meeting between Speaker and Chief Whips yields no outcome

KATHMANDU: The attempt by Speaker Devraj Ghimire to address the ongoing obstruction in the House of Representatives (HoR) through a meeting with the chief whips and whips of various parties concluded without a definitive outcome.

Santosh Pariyar, the chief whip of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), stated that the meeting remained inconclusive, as both the ruling party and the main opposition remained steadfast in their respective stances.

The CPN-UML has maintained its position regarding the establishment of a high-level committee to investigate the 60-kilogram gold smuggling case, Pariyar noted.

The meeting was attended by whips and chief whips from the ruling parties, including the Nepali Congress and Maoist Center, as well as from the opposition parties, which include CPN-UML, Rastriya Swatantra Party, and Rastriya Prajatantra Party.

CPN-UML has been causing disruption in the Parliament by insisting on the formation of a high-level investigation committee to address the gold smuggling case.

In contrast, the government remains opposed to the idea of creating such a committee.
