NC lawmaker Sunil Sharma vows to continue demanding Home Minister’s resignation

KATHMANDU: Sunil Sharma, a lawmaker of the Nepali Congress (NC), has expressed his unwavering commitment to demanding the resignation of Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha, citing the compelling concerns surrounding the 100-quintal gold smuggling case.

During the NC’s Parliamentary Party (PP) meeting in Kathmandu on Sunday, Sharma stated, “I am resolute in my stance regarding the Home Minister’s resignation. However, I am open to contemplating the resignation of the Finance Minister.”

Lawmaker Sharma was detained by the Central Investigation Bureau last week but was subsequently released within a span of two days.

Throughout this period, he continued to advocate for the resignation of both the Home Minister and the Finance Minister in relation to the gold smuggling issue.

Furthermore, Sharma clarified that his advocacy was focused solely on policy matters and bore no personal undertones.

Amid discussions among NC lawmakers, some expressed criticism towards Sharma for his meeting with CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli in Balkot, arguing that it deviated from the party’s established disciplinary norms.

Responding to this, Sharma clarified that his meeting with Oli and other leaders at Balkot was intended to acknowledge their support during his recent arrest, and was not intended to breach the party’s code of conduct.
