CPN-UML’s obstruction continues: HoR meeting adjourned

Raises objections against the arrest of Nepali Congress lawmaker Sunil Sharma

KATHMANDU: The House of Representatives (HoR) meeting faced yet another obstruction as CPN-UML lawmakers intensified their protests on Friday.

CPN-UML, the main opposition party, made their demands clear by shouting slogans and encircling the well of the assembly.

Meanwhile, UML raised strong objections against the arrest of Nepali Congress (NC) lawmaker Sunil Sharma.

During the House of Representatives session, UML lawmaker Jwala Kumari Shah protested against Sharma’s arrest.

“Lawmaker Sharma had been advocating for the establishment of a high-level investigative committee to look into the gold case,: she said.

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police on Thursday took MP Sharma into custody.

By Friday morning, the Bureau had detained a total of 8 doctors, including lawmaker Sharma.

Their slogans echoed through the hall, urging the government of a high-level committee to investigate the 100-kilogram gold smuggling case.

Faced with the escalating disruption, Speaker Devraj Ghimire had no choice but to adjourn the HoR meeting, with proceedings set to resume on Monday.
