KATHMANDU: Home Minister Narayankaji Shrestha on Thursday said acting on the advice of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, the government has opened the corruption file, vowing not to spare anyone involved, even if they belong to the Maoist Center.
During the central committee meeting that commenced on Wednesday, Shrestha, who also holds the positions of Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister, emphasized the need for the party to rebuild itself through unity and by building upon the government’s positive achievements.
As part of an ongoing anti-corruption campaign, the government has been investigating the gold smuggling case, with some Maoist leaders’ names being linked to it.
Among those alleged are Maoist Vice Chairman Krishna Bahadur Mahara and his son, as well as another leader Barshman Pun.
Both of them have denied any involvement, but the government is continuing its investigation.
In the spirit of the anti-corruption campaign, Maoist central members are calling for a thorough investigation of all individuals, including party members, and for a scrutiny of their assets.
This approach reflects the party’s commitment to accountability and integrity.
