Koshi Province Assembly Speaker Baburam Gautam resigns



BIRATNAGAR: Koshi Province Assembly Speaker Baburam Gautam has resigned from the post on Tuesday.

He resigned from the post after the Supreme Court (SC) ruled on the legality of his signature used to make Nepali Congress (NC) province party leader Uddhav Thapa the Chief Minister.

Earlier, when CPN-UML’s Hikmat Karki failed to get a vote of confidence retain the post of Chief Minister, Koshi Province Chief Parashuram Khapung had called the parties two claim the post of Chief Minister showing their majority in the province assembly.

And then While proposing NC leader Thapa as Chief Minister, Speaker Gautam signed the document.

Challenging the deed, UML parliamentary party leader Hikmat Karki approached the Supreme Court against this.

Hearing on his writ, SC declared Thapa’s government void and urged the province head to ensure the parties act as per the spirit of the Constitution.

SC did not give legitimacy to Speaker Ghimire’s signature used to form the government.
