KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli has demanded the resignation of Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha.

Accusing Home Minister Shrestha of  being indulged in the smuggling of a quintal of gold, the UML Chair said that Deputy Prime Minister Shrestha should immediately resign and help the investigation.

Addressing the Lumbini province-level two-day training program organized by UML in Nepalgunj, the former Prime Minister accused the Home Minister of being the main culprit in the smuggling of gold.

Alleging that the current coalition government was formed for the benefit of the people, Oli claimed that the government could not control corruption.

Alleging that the current government has no destination and is devoid of policy and purpose, he said, “This government was created to misappropriate the treasure. There is no point in expecting anything from this government.”

Stating that smuggling a quintal of gold from the international airport is not something that can be ignored, he claimed that gold is being smuggled with the involvement and protection of the government.

“It is not normal to penetrate a quintal of gold at the same time from a place where a common man cannot pierce a needle,” Oli said, adding, “Without the involvement and protection of the government, this would not have been possible.”

The UML chair demanded the formation of a high-level commission for the investigation of the gold smuggling.
