KATHMANDU: Seventeen-year-old Nima Rinji Sherpa, hailing from Sankhuwasabha, has achieved a remarkable world record by becoming the youngest climber to scale Mount K-2, also known as Mt Killer.
On Thursday at 10:45 am, Sherpa reached the summit of the 8,611-meter high K-2, situated in Pakistan. He accomplished this feat at the age of 17 years and 99 days.
Joining Nima Rinji on this incredible journey were climbers Tenjen Sherpa and Pasang Norbu Sherpa. Additionally, Norwegian climber Kristin Harila and Nepali guide Tenjen Lama Sherpa successfully climbed the mountain. Kristin Harila and Tenjen Sherpa set a new world record by scaling 14 eight-thousanders in just 92 days.
Nima Rinji has already summited eight mountain peaks above 8,000 meters, including Manaslu, Sagarmatha, Nanga Parbat, Gasherbrum 2, Gasherbrum 1, and Broad Peak. Setting his next project as summitting Mt. Cho Oyu, Nima Rinji vows to conquer all 14 eight-thousanders while still in his teens.
