Chief Justice Karki assures timely appointments of Judges

THIMI, BHAKTAPUR: Chief Justice Hari Krishna Karki has assured that the appointment of judges will be carried out promptly.

He revealed that preparations are underway to convene a meeting of the Judicial Council, which will facilitate the process of appointing new judges.

During a meeting with representatives from the Constitutional and Judicial Journalists Forum, Chief Justice Karki shared that the delay in judge appointments has contributed to a growing backlog of cases in the court.

It has been disclosed that seven vacancies will soon be available at the Supreme Court, along with 60 vacancies at the high courts.

In accordance with constitutional provisions, recommendations for new judge appointments should be made one month before the positions become vacant. Unfortunately, the process has encountered obstacles due to the delayed convening of a Judicial Council meeting.

SC has been functioning with only five judges of late.
