KATHMANDU: The Special Court has announced the imprisonment of the then-chairman of the Tax Evasion Commission Lumbhadwaj Mahat and its members Umesh Dhakal and Chudamani Sharma.
Mahat has been sentenced to 9 years and 1-month imprisonment. Likewise, members Dhakal and Sharma have been sentenced to 9 years in prison. Similarly, 4 billion 104 million 697 thousand rupees have been demanded from the convicted three.
The special court found the three guilty on June 1, six years after the case was filed. They were accused of exempting various business firms and companies against the law of more than 11 billion in revenue that should be received by the state.
CIAA had filed two cases against those officials on the charge of taking personal benefits by deducting the revenue amount that should have been received from the state treasury.
