KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) will make a decision regarding the potential suspension of former Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand only after the return of party President Sher Bahadur Deuba from Singapore, where he is currently undergoing medical treatment.
According to NC insiders, the party will formally establish its position regarding the matter after the return of NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba to his home on June 22.
Sources said that the NC will engage in discussions regarding the issue involving Bal Krishna Khand and subsequently make a formal decision on whether or not to suspend him from the party.
Currently, in the absence of NC President Deuba, the responsibility of Acting President has been entrusted to Purna Bahadur Khadka, the Vice President of the party.
Khand, who was implicated in the fake Bhutanese refugee scam, has been sent to custody by the Kathmandu District Court on Friday.
To recall, NC Vice President Dhanraj Gurung, along with General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma, had previously called for the suspension of Khand from his position.
The NC party has maintained silence regarding Khand’s involvement in the scam.
Meanwhile, the CPN-UML has already taken action by suspending its leader Top Bahadur Rayamajhi from the position of party Secretary.
Meanwhile, Khand has steadfastly denied his involvement in the fake Bhutanese refugee case.
A verdict was delivered by Judge Prem Prasad Neupane of the Kathmandu District Court on Friday, stating that 16 individuals, including Khand, have been implicated in the fake Bhutanese refugee case and sent to custody.
