Two people, including a Chinese, arrested for bypassing int’l calls



KATHMANDU: Police have arrested two people, including a Chinese, for bypassing international calls/SMS.

According to Central Bureau of Investigation (CIB) spokesperson SP Sanjay Singh Thapa, CIB arrested two people on Tuesday.

The arrested are Chinese citizen Zhao Xiongpeng, 32, resident of Tikathali Kharibot, Lalitpur Mahalakshmi Municipality-5, and Ganesh Shrestha, 22, resident of Sindhupalchowk, currently living in Kathmandu Metropolitan Municipality-16.

SP Thapa shared that the police intensified monitoring of the area after getting the information that suspicious activities were going on in Tikathali.

“After monitoring for a long time, it was revealed that they were illegally bypassing international calls/SMS,” he said, said, “We have recovered SIM cards and other illegal devices from them.”

Police also recovered 1,925 US dollars, 2.5 million Indonesian Rupiah, 114,770 Sri Lankan rupees, 10,500 Icelandic kroner, 500 Chinese yen, 260 thousand Myanmar kyat, and 480 thousand Nepali rupees from them.

Lalitpur District Court has been investigating the incident under Telecommunication Act, 2053, the police said.
