Journalist injured in police assault



SINDHULI: Federation of Nepali Journalists, Sindhuli Chapter Chair Hom Kumar Karki (Rajan) has been seriously injured as a result of an alleged beating by two police personnel last night.

Karki has been rushed to Kathmandu for treatment.

Karki has suffered serious injuries to his head in the scuffle that reportedly took place at a hotel in Shivanagar of Sindhuli on Saturday night. Police head constable Sanam Singh Lama attacked journalist Karki after the latter rejected his request to delete a video recording that he had made of Lama’s conversation with former Chair of FNJ Sindhuli Min Kumar Dahal.

Police constable Bikash Syangden also joined the act, hitting Karki with a motorcycle helmet, according to Dahal. The two police personnel are based at the District Police Office, Sindhuli.

Dahal was also injured in the incident. Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police Chakra Bahadur Singh has said that both the police personnel have been taken into custody for necessary investigation. He pledged to take action if they are found guilty.
