President’s Cup Running Shield: Lumbini clinches three golds in athletics



KATHMANDU: The 13th edition of President’s Cup Running Shield, the country’s only grassroots sports competition, began in the capital on Friday.

On the first day of the competition, Lumbini and Gandaki provinces won 2 golds and Bagmati province won 1 gold.

Athletes from Lumbini won gold in both male and female 100 m races.

Sujal Dangi won the gold with a timing of 11.4 seconds in the event held at Dashrath Stadium, Kathmandu.

Adesh Yadav of Madhesh and Sushil Oli of Karnali won bronze in this event.

On the female side, Lumbini’s Arushi Bhattarai completed the distance in 13.7 seconds and won the gold. Bagmati’s Dina Gopali won silver and Swagata Khaiju won bronze in this event.

Bikas BK of Lumbini won the gold in the boys’ 1,500 m race. He completed the distance in 4 minutes 22.8 seconds.

Badal Karki of Gandaki and Amit Auji of Sudur Paschim got silver and bronze respectively in this event.

Narayani Bhandari of Gandaki won the gold with a timing of 5 minutes and 15.4 seconds while winning the gold in the female category of this competition.

Lumbini’s Motikala Dangi won silver and Koshi Pradesh’s Neela Jimi won bronze.

Bagmati’s Naveen Khatri won gold in the high jump. He exceeded the height of 1.68 meters. Manish GC from Gandaki and Sagar Yadav from Koshi both became the second. Seema Shrestha from Gandaki won gold in the girl’s category of this competition.

Lumbini’s Pramila Chaudhary won the silver medal and Sudurpaschim’s Sushmita Chaudhary won the bronze medal.

154 athletes from seven provinces are competing for 26 gold medals in the three-day competition.
