BUTWAL: The Jitgadhi festival is being observed today in Butwal in Rupandehi district.

The festival is celebrated here every year to mark the victory over the British government (then East India Company) by the Nepal Army.

A Nepal Army led by Colonel Ujir Singh Thapa conquered the Jitgadhi fort on 7th Baisakh 1872 BS by taking down the British Army.

The festival is observed in Butwal Sub Metropolitan City every year in celebration of the conquest of the fort.

All preparations for the festival have been over, said the sub-metropolis chief administrative officer Tekraj Panthi.

On the occasion, the main celebration committee is scheduled to welcome an Army team, which is on a walking tour all the way from Gorkha to take part in the festival, said the sub-metropolis mayor Khelraj Pandey.

As per the schedule, the travel team will be welcomed at 10 am, and their tour concluded, and the main celebration program will take place at the fort at 12:30 pm, he said.
