Ministry of Labor cautions over the role of intermediaries

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security (MOLESS) has urged all concerned not to rely on middlemen to get financial assistance through the Foreign Employment Board (FEB).

The caution comes in wake of reports that the families of migrant workers, who lost their lives in foreign employment, have been cheated by middlemen while received the insurance amount from the FEB.

“Death registration certificate, recommendation of the municipality along with the documents that come with the dead body from abroad are required to receive the amount for death insurance, which can be easily made through the respect municipality. Hence, there was no need to use intermediary for that”, a statement issued by MOLESS said.

The Ministry has requested all concerned to call toll-free number 16600150005141 or number 977-1-5970008 or call and message 9801800013, 9851180959 on Viber and IMO for any concerns related to the matter.

It has also warned severe action against anyone who engages in unnecessary interference and cheats in the pretext of helping the families of the workers.

Meanwhile, police have arrested six people on the charge of cheating the families of deceased workers.
