BIRATNAGAR: Eight political parties that have backed Ram Chandra Poudel for his presidential candidacy have sought votes for Poudel, arguing that he should emerge victorious to strengthen the republic.

An orientation program was held in Biratnagar on Friday, seeking votes for Poudel. Province Assembly Members from the eight parties from Koshi Province attended the orientation program.

On the occasion, NC General Secretary Bishwa Prakash Sharma argued that Poudel would play a crucial role in safeguarding federalism. The president should serve the interest of the country, not merely of a political party, he stressed.

Sharma also claimed that the current coalition would continue for five years.

Likewise, Vice-Chairman of CPN (Maoist Center) Krishna Bahadur Mahara said that Poudel was a suitable candidate for the presidential election to safeguard the constitution and republic.

On the occasion, Mahara reminded that an eight-party coalition was formed to head the country towards prosperity.  The eight-party coalition was formed by realizing the need of concluding the peace process and safeguard the constitution, he underlined.

NC Assistant General Secretary Bishma Raj Angdembe, NC leader parliamentary party leader of Koshi Province Uddhab Thapa, CPN (Maoist Center) parliamentary party leader of Koshi Province Indra Bahadur Angboo, Maoist Centre leader Harka Nembang and CPN (Unified Socialist) leader Mahesh Regmi also spoke at the event, asking the province assembly members to cast vote for Poudel.

Meanwhile, the orientation program for the Lumbini Province Assembly Members was held in Deukhuri of Dang district on Friday.

On the occasion, the speakers from the eight-party ruling alliance asked the Province Assembly Members not to be swayed by others’ temptation as it was secret voting.

NC leader Yogendra Chaudhary said that no one is above the constitution but the past exercises had signaled otherwise. “We are united to safeguard the constitution,” Chaudhary said.

Likewise, Maoist Center secretary Chakrapani Khanal viewed the NC has fielded Poudel with much consideration. “We have come to a point for safeguarding the constitution. We need to build trust,” Khanal added.

Leader of Loktantrik Socialist Party Sarbendra Nath Shukla argued that the coalition was formed to protect the constitution and elect a suitable candidate for the president.

Province Assembly Members from the eight-party alliance were present in the orientation program.
