KATHMANDU: The Jorpati-Sundarijal road widening plan has come closer to the final stage after a hiatus.

The drive was not gaining momentum for long due to obstructions from different fronts.

The Kathmandu Valley Road Expansion Project said the Jorpati-Sundarijal road expansion drive was coming closer to a conclusion after resolving all the problems surfaced.

Information Officer at the project, Mahananda Joshi shard that blacktopping was remaining to be done on 50-60 meter portion of the road nearby Nayapati due to dispute with locals.

According to him, there was a dispute between the construction workers and locals some weeks ago.

“The ward office is effortful to coordinate with the concerned agencies to fix the problems surfaced in the area. Remaining areas would be blacktopped immediately after resolving the issues”, he added.

Locals had put forth a condition for the construction of a bus park in the area when the road expansion drive was on verge of completion, he shared.

He informed that the bus park would also be constructed provided budget availability.

There was also a public demand for the construction of bridges in at least three areas along the road section, he said, adding the project has demanded government budget for the same.

“Despite road expansion, space passing through the bridges was still narrowed”, he noted.

The contract for road expansion was signed in 2015 (2072 BS) in a way to widen 11-meter each side from the road center.

It took a long time due to obstruction in removing electric poles and trees on the way.

Local people had faced troubled for long when the road widening drive did not advance as planned.
