KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML has decided to field its Vice-Chairman Subas Chandra Nembang as the presidential candidate.

The secretariat meeting held at the party  central office in Chyasal, Lalitpur on Saturday decided to make Nembang a candidate.

With UML decision to present Nembang as candidate,  two candidates for the presidency have been decided. Nepali Congress has made its senior leader Ramchandra Paudel the presidential candidate.

Although NC candidate Paudel has the support of 8 parties, it is not clear which party supports UML’s Nembang.

However, UML Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai claimed that his candidate will win.

Nembang, who has won consecutive elections from Ilam since 2056 BS, has been in the role of Speaker for four times. He was the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the Chairman of the Constituent Assembly when the Constitution was promulgated in 2072 BS.

Nembang, who has been in the National Assembly for two terms after 2048 BS and in the House of Representatives continuously since 2056 BS, is the leader with the widest parliamentary experience in the UML.
