KATHMANDU: The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal  (CAAN) has directed Guna Airlines to stop all flights.

The Authority has instructed to stop all flights saying that the non-payment of salaries to pilots and crew members could seriously affect air safety.

According to Jagannath Niraula, spokesperson of the authority, a letter has been sent on Monday to ground all ships for the time being until further arrangements are made.

“There was a risk in flight safety after the employees involved in the flight were not given salary facilities”, he said, adding,  “We have written a letter saying that all flights should be stopped until further arrangements are made considering the risk.”

Guna’s flights have been closed since last Wednesday.

Earlier, Guna Air had said that the flights was stopped because the spare parts were being brought from abroad for the repair of the ship and the pilots are undergoing training.

However, the company said that it will operate regular flights from yesterday (Sunday).

After the flight was stopped, the investigation found that the salary was not paid, according to the authority.

Guna Air currently has three aircraft in operation flying to Tumlingtar, Pokhara, Biratnagar, Bhairahawa, Bharatpur, Simara and other destinations of the country.
