KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) president and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ have held a meeting in Baluwatar on Sunday evening.
According to Nepali Congress sources, NC president Deuba, along with other senior leaders of the party, reached Baluwatar to meet Prime Minister Dahal and discuss on the possibilities of reviving former NC-led alliance.
“Decisive discussions are being held between Deuba and Prime Minister Dahal on the issue of presidential elections and reviving the old alliance,” an NC leader said under anonymity.
The NC leader shared that Prime Minister Dahal assured to inform them (NC leaders) after discussing the issue in the party meeting on Monday.
NC President Deuba was accompanied by General Secretary Gagan Thapa, and leaders duo Ramchandra Poudel and Krishna Prasad Sitaula during the meeting.
There is a program for the registration of candidacy on February 25 for the presidential election to be held on March 9.
NC leaders are trying to make the CPN-Maoist Center stand in favor of the NC candidate by February 22nd.
Although CPN-UML has been claiming that the Maoist Center and ruling alliance agreed to support UML candidate for the post of President, after getting vote of confidence from NC on January 10, the Prime Minister’s party has been opting for national consensus for the post of President.
This has created a rift in the ruling coalition. In this situation, it is estimated that politics is likely to take a new course with the intensified discussion between NC and the Maoists Center.
