Lawmakers express concerns over contemporary issues

KATHMANDU: The House of Representatives (HoR) has called the government’s attention towards the functioning of Supreme Court under the leadership of acting Chief Justice for a year.

With the commencement of the today’s session of the HoR, NC lawmaker Arjun Narsingh KC demanded the time to question over ‘status’ of the impeachment motion against former Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana.

He was of the opinion of taking the motion to a conclusion, instead of presenting it as the “Sword of Damocles.” Such action is a mockery of the law and against the Constitutionalism, according to him.

NC lawmaker Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat drew the government’s attention towards the incident took place at the New Buspark area on Monday.

He accused the government of failing to take action against looting that took place at a mobile phone outlet in broad daylight in course of an agitation called by the transport workers on Monday.

He demanded parking facilities for minibus and bus entrepreneurs as per the law and unlawful activities committed in the name of transport workers. He spoke about the possibility of involvement of outsiders instead of related workers in the incident, demanding a probe into it.

The lawmaker utilized the forum to urge the government to promptly find out realities surrounding the incident and to endorse genuine concerns of transport workers.

Nepal Workers’ and Peasants’ Party lawmaker Prem Suwal questioned over the government decision to observe a public holiday on Fagun 1 when the phrase ‘people’s war’ has been mentioned nowhere in the Constitution.

He was of the view of causing no inconvenience to the public during the movement of ‘ VVIPS’, informing the House that he himself got stuck in a two-hour traffic jam during the recent visit to the Federal Parliament by President Bidya Devi Bhandari.

He also stressed the need of taking timely measures to avert the possible shortage of chemical fertilizers, calling for nationalizing hydropower projects.
