Transport workers’ issues to be resolved with help of high-level task force



KATHMANDU: Talks have been held among the government, the transport entrepreneurs and the transport sector workers in Singha Durbar on the topics raised by the workers in course of their protest movement.

A meeting convened by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Narayan Kaji Shrestha this morning decided to resolve the problems seen in the transport sector through the high-level task force constituted by the government.

General-secretary of Nepal Transport Workers’ Association, Nurnath Pant said the meeting discussed on addressing the justified demands put forth by the transport entrepreneurs and workers by holding a meeting of the task force.

During the discussions, DPM Shrestha said that the Ministry of Transport would seriously work on resolving the problems in the transport sector.

All programs of halting transport in Kathmandu Valley today have been suspended with this agreement.

Along with DPM Shrestha, the Ministry’s secretary, the Director General of the Department of Transport Management Tulasinath Gautam, Chief of the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office Meera Chaudhary, the president of the Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs, Bijaya Swanr and leaders of the transport workers organizations attended the meeting.

Meanwhile, a meeting of the high-level task force is under way at the Department of Transport Management, Minbhawan.

Tension flared in Balaju area due to the agitation of the transport workers on Monday. Two police vans were set on fire and the Lhotse Mall, a shopping center in the area, was vandalized and goods stolen from there in course of the agitation.
