RPP protests against ‘People’s War Anniversary’ holiday, Minister abstain cabinet meeting

KATHMANDU: A key member of the ruling coalition, Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has opposed the government’s decision to grant a holiday on the occasion of People’s War Day.

The meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Sunday decided to give a public holiday tomorrow on the occasion of the People’s War Day.

“It is unfortunate and offensive. We have objection to the decision to give a public holiday to a violent war by one party,” said RPP spokesperson Mohan Kumar Shrestha.

RPP ministers have also boycotted today’s cabinet meeting.

“If the days various political parties raised arms against state are to be granted public holidays, more than sixty days have to be marked as public holidays,” a minister representing RPP said, adding, “Our party objects to such haphazard decisions made by the cabinet.”
