Meeting of high-level mechanism underway at Baluwatar



, KATHMANDU: A meeting of the high-level political mechanism comprising the top leaders of the ruling partner parties is underway at Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar today.

The meeting, which was scheduled to be held on Thursday, was postponed to Friday. The meeting will discuss the election of the President, and other contemporary political issues, a Maoist leader said.

Earlier on Wednesday, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda and CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli had agreed to convene a high-level political mechanism meeting on Thursday.

However, UML Chairman Oli and Prime Minister Dahal on Thursday agreed to postpone it to Friday.

UML Chairman Oli is the coordinator of the high-level political mechanism.

The election of the President will be held on March 9. However, the political parties have not yet forged a consensus candidate as of today.

According to the agreement reached during the formation of the government, CPN-UML had got the post of President.

This is the first time that the meeting of the high-level mechanism is going to be held after the Rastriya Swatantra Party quit the government.
