Trump cracks a joke with Putin: ‘Do not meddle in election’

OSAKA: US President Donald Trump told Russia President Vladimir Putin not to “meddle with the election” in a meeting in Japan.

With a grin and a finger point, Trump cracked a joke to Putin as they held brief talks on the sidelines of the G20 conference in Japan on Friday. This was the first time that they sat together after the Helsinki meeting. Putin, however, did not respond. He only laughed.

The exchange of words was, in fact, less of a stern rebuke than a sarcastic joke between two friends.

This meeting has been held after a year since Trump and Putin met in Helsinki of Finland when the former had accepted Putin’s denial of meddling in the 2016 US election.

President Trump said that he enjoyed a “very good relationship” with Putin. (Agencies)
