NC writes letter to Parliament Secretariat seeking facilities availed by main opposition party

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) on Sunday registered an application at the Federal Parliament Secretariat seeking the status of the main opposition party.

It has also demanded service and facilities for the party in the capacity of the main opposition party.

According to Federal Parliament Secretariat, the Nepali Congress submitted an application to the MP Facilities Management Division for the service facilities to be provided to the main opposition party and the leader of the opposition party.

At a time when questions are being raised about whether the NC is the main opposition party, the party has demanded services and facilities from the Federal Parliament.

However, the Nepal Majoor and Kisan Party already submitted a petition to the Speaker for the recognition of the opposition party.

According to the Federal Parliament Officers’ Privileges Act, the main opposition party and the leader of the opposition party receive special privileges.

Apart from salary, the NC has demanded special allowance to the leader of the main opposition party, meeting allowance, monthly amount for telephone, internet and newspaper under communication facilities, accommodation facilities, furniture expenses, private secretariat arrangement expenses, and other facilities.
