Sankata clinches Aaha Rara Gold Cup title

POKHARA: Sankata Football Club has lifted the title of the 22nd edition of the Aaha Rara Pokhara Gold Cup Football Tournament 2079.

In a final match played at Pokhara Stadium on Saturday, Sankata won the championship title second time after beating Bhutanese Youth Sports Club (BYSC) Minnesota of the US with 3-2.

Earlier too, Sankata had won the title in the 20th edition of the gold cup tournament.

The winner team has bagged a cash prize of Rs 1.2 million along with a shield, medal and certificate. The runner-up team received a cash prize of Rs 600,000 with a shield, medal and certificate.

Strikers Surajjyu Thakuri, Mesuke Olamaeu and Sunil Bal netted on each goal to put Sankata on leading position. Likewise, Rene Santian and Wili Griffith made one each goal from BYSC.

When the 90-minute tournament ended in a 2-2 draw, Sanakata’s goal on the 117th minute in the second half of the extra time went decisive.

Sunil Bal netted the final to emerge Sanakata victorious with 3-2.
