Province government formation uncertain in Sudurpaschim

SUDURPASCHIM: Formation of the government in Sudurpaschim province has become uncertain for now when the Nagarik Unmukti Party came up with a stance not to support any force and also avoid participation in the formation of the government unless their demands and agenda were addressed.

The Nagarik Unmukti Party has seven seats in the 53-member province assembly.

Its parliamentary party leader Rameshwor Chaudhary said they would not lend support to any force and boycott participation in the government until detainees of the Tikapur incident were released.

No single party has majority in the province assembly. Nepali Congress is the largest party in the assembly with 19 members followed by CPN (Maoist) 11 members, CPN-UML 10, CPN (Unified Socialist) four and Rastriya Prajatantra Party and independent one each.

It requires a majority of 27 members for the formation of the government. It is difficult for any party to garner majority in the assembly.

The Nagarik Unmukti Party however has lent its support in the formation of federal government.

The CPN (Unified Socialist) having four seats in the province assembly has not decided whether or not to join the government.

In the province assembly Maoist, UML and RPP have a total of 22 members. It is difficult when the NC and Nagarik Unmukti Party remained out of the process of forming the government and Unified Socialist undecided.

Province Chief Devraj Joshi has called the first session of the province assembly as per the Article 183 of the Nepal Constitution.

Meanwhile, an all-party meeting held on Sunday decided to conduct election for picking the Speaker of the province assembly.
