Newly appointed AG Pokharel takes oath

KATHMANDU: Newly-appointed Attorney General (AG) Dr Dinmani Pokharel has taken the oath of office and secrecy today.

Acting Chief Justice Hari Krishna Karki administered oath to him amid a ceremony today at the Office of President in Sheetal Niwas in the presence of President Bidya Devi Bhandari and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’.

President Bhandari on Wednesday appointed Dr Pokharel as AG on the recommendation of PM Dahal.

Born on 11 April 1974 at Jhimruk Rural Municipality-4 in Pyuthan district, Pokharel involved in legal practice since 25 years ago.

He has acquired a Ph.D. in Law in 2016. He obtained a Master’s degree in Law in 1999 from Delhi University, India, and in Political Science in 2007 from the International Institute of Social Studies in the Netherlands.

He has got a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Law. Apart from legal practice and consultancy, he has been involved in legal research and drafting.

Earlier, he worked as a legal expert for the Constituent Assembly Committee on Natural Resources, Economic Rights and Revenue Allocation, and as a legal advisor to former Speaker of the Federal Parliament Onsari Gharti.

He has been providing legal services for national and international organizations.
