Parliament should not enact laws without adequate discussion: Former Chief Justice Shrestha

KATHMANDU: Former Chief Justice Kalyan Shrestha has said that Parliament should not enact laws without adequate discussion on it.

Taking part in an interaction program entitled ‘Role of Parliament in the Promotion of the Rule of Law,’ in Kathmandu on Tuesday, the Former Chief Justice complained that the Parliament has been enacting many laws without adequate discussion.

Saying that all lawmakers should use their conscience and take part in all discussions when there are important bills, he said that political parties should not deprive the lawmakers from taking part in the discussions.

“A law passed without discussion cannot assume legal substance,” Shrestha said, adding, “The lawmakers should retain their dignity and self-respect and use the responsibility of lawmaker through their active participation in the lawmaking process.”
