Increase in electricity consumption will boost economy: Finance Minister Sharma

Finance Minister Janardan Sharma has said if the consumption of electricity is ensured, it would help boost economic development.

Time has come to ensure increase in electricity consumption within the country, he said, arguing that it would contribute to reduce trade loss. It is time to reap benefit from the investment made in the hydropower sector.

PM Deuba assures West Seti and Pancheswar project bring prosperity

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that development and prosperity will be ensured after the completion of mega development projects like West Seti and Pancheswar.

Inaugurating the Sudurpaschim festival here today, Prime Minister Deuba expressed the belief that the construction of the West Seti project will be completed soon as the Indian company to build the hydropower project has received the permit.

NC’s work execution committee to finalize names of PR members

The Nepali Congress (NC) has called a meeting of the Central Work Execution Committee to finalize the names of the proportional representation (PR) candidates to be sent to the House of Representatives.

Krishna Prasad Paudel, Chief Secretary of the party office, said that the meeting will be held at the party central office in Sanepa on Saturday afternoon.

He said that the party has already instructed the members to attend the meeting.

Nepali Congress had fielded candidates in 91 constituencies under the first-past-the-post category.

UML to send 19 female members under PR system, NC 29

To ensure inclusiveness and proportional representation (PR) of all communities, including marginalized communities in the parliament, the Election Commission (EC) has already asked the parties to send the names of the members to represent their parties in the House of Representatives.

The EC has asked the CPN-UML to send names of 19 female members out of the 34 seats won by the party under the PR category.

Likewise, Nepali Congress (NC) has to send 29 names of women members out of the 32 seats won by the party.

RSP in hot waters; leaders question party’s intention while naming PR members

Dissatisfaction has emerged within the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), which is chaired by Rabi Lamichhane, regarding the proportional election of policymakers.

The RSP had earlier chosen the names of those who received the most votes in the primary election last October in the closed list of the House of Representatives.

But now, some leaders complained, the party has included the names of those who got an insignificant number of votes in the list of proportional representation candidates.
