KATHMANDU: A protest rally has been taken out on Monday afternoon demanding annulment of Guthi Bill.

The rally started from Basantapur and ended there after traveling through Ratna Park, Bhotahity, Bhadrakali, Sahid Gate, Sundhara and Khichapokhari.

The protesters in the rally also demanded the resignation of Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation, Minister for Communications and Information Technology and Minister for Home Affairs.

Campaigner Tej Ratna Bajracharya said Nepal’s culture will be wiped out if the bill is not annulled.

Last week, the government had decided to withdraw the controversial bill. However, the people mainly from Newar communities in Kathmandu Valley have been demanding the abrogation of the bill.

The highly-talked-about bill brought to ‘manage lands’ belonging to Guthis (religious, social trusts) has been widely protested and criticized.
