Action against over speeding intensified



KATHMANDU: Traffic Police have so far booked 940 drivers on the charge of over speeding.

The Metropolitan Traffic Police Division (MTPD) has intensified action by initiating a campaign to reduce over speeding.

It has set a speed limit in different parts of the city, especially in the Ring Road and has started taking action since June 11.

Senior Superintendent Basanta Kumar Panta informed that they have set a speed limit with an aim to control road accidents due to over speeding.

According to him, they have been taking action against drivers driving at a speed more than 50 Km/hr from Kalanki to Koteshwar as well as in the Bhaktapur section.

Around 230 persons, mostly motorcyclists, died in traffic accidents in the Kathmandu Valley in the current fiscal year, the MTPD.

Meanwhile, according to the Department of Transport Management, a total of 3.3 registered vehicles operate throughout the country, including some 900 thousand in the Kathmandu Valley alone.
