Ethiopia army chief shot dead



ADDID ABABA: Chief of staff of the Ethiopian army, Gen Seare Mekonnen, has been shot dead in the country’s capital Addis Ababa by his own bodyguard, media reports have said.

Gen Seare and another officer were killed when they were trying to prevent a coup attempt against the administration in Amhara region, the country’s PM Abiy Ahmed informed.

The prime minister has denounced the attacks. (Agencies)
