Rape cases on a rise in Karnali State

BIRENDRANAGAR: A total of 116 rape cases have been reported in the Karnali State in the past nine months.

This, according to police officials, is almost double compared to such incidences occurred in the corresponding period last year.

The Karnali State Police Office said that around 59 cases of rape occurred in the Karnali State last year. The number, in the last two fiscal years, was 68 and 67, respectively.

Likewise, cases of polygamy and child marriage have also been in a significant number. Concerned authorities have initiated public awareness programs against women violence under the peace and security campaign of Ministry of Economic Affairs and Law, officials said. The awareness programs will cover a total of 79 local levels of ten districts in the Karnali State.
