SC issues short-term interim order to halt action against “No Not Again” campaign

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has issued a short-term interim order to halt any kind of action against the operators of the “No Not Again” Facebook page and group.

The Election Commission ordered the “No Not Again” Facebook page and group to be closed for making defamatory statements against the candidates.

Likewise, the Commission requested Cyber Bureau of Nepal Police to monitor the expression and offensive content against the party leaders through the campaign’s Facebook page.

In addition, the Commission had also requested to take action against the “No Not Again” page in accordance with the Electronic Transactions Act.

Hearing the petition filed by senior advocate Dinesh Tripathi and advocate Anil Acharya against the action of the Election Commission, a single bench of Judge Hari Prasad Phuyal on Sunday gave a short-term interim order not to proceed with the EC’s course of action.

It has also demanded a written response from the defendants, including the Commission.

Similarly, the court also summoned both the writ petitioner and the defendants for a discussion on interim order on November 10.
