EC grants conditional permission to PM Deuba to go to Dadeldhura

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has allowed Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba to go to his Dadeldhura constituency.

According to EC source, the Prime Minister will be allowed to go to Dadeldhura only at personal or party expense, without using government resources.

Earlier, the Office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers had sent a letter and asked for permission for Prime Minister Deuba’s Dadeldhura visit. At that time, EC had refused to give permission saying that the PM could not go there at government expenses.

But after the PM Deuba’s secretariat wrote to EC seeking permission to go to Dadeldhura at personal or party expense, the approval was granted.

Formal notice about the permission granted to PM Deuba would be send in a while, the source said.

The commission had earlier stipulated in the code of conduct that the prime minister and ministers are not allowed to campaign in areas other than where they are candidates.

Prime Minister Deuba was preparing to go to Dadeldhura, which is also his constituency, on Wednesday. His election program is scheduled from Thursday.
