KATHMANDU: The Unified Socialist has brought forth the concept of huge investment in agricultural infrastructures so that agricultural productivity would be increased.

The party has aimed at modernizing agriculture with mechanization and commercialization in its election manifesto.

Availability and smooth supply of agricultural tools, fertilizers, seeds and technology are given emphasis by the party.

Similarly, establishment of cold store, agricultural products collection centre and schemes as entire agricultural super zone, block and pocket area would be prioritized.

Modern farming would be developed with examination of soil, the manifesto stated, adding that production of foods, fishes, meat, eggs and milk would be enhanced and exported.

The party has aimed at exporting food grains within five years. Letting soil barren would be strongly discouraged, and organic farming with production and use of compost encouraged.

Dependency on import of chemical fertilizer would be reduced gradually, according to the party.

Other schemes to augment agricultural productivity are- land pooling, collective and cooperative farming, grants to the farmers cultivating barren land.

General Secretary of the party Dr Beduram Bhusal informed that training on basic agriculture to the youths and women, vocational training, subsidized loan and insurance to agricultural entrepreneurs are other significant issues included in the manifesto.
