Joint appeal to vote for coalition parties for safeguarding constitution and enhancing prosperity

The five-party ruling coalition has appealed to the voters to realize the essence of the coalition so as to meet national aspirations of good governance and prosperity through democracy, constitution and rule of law and emerge the coalition partners victorious in upcoming elections.

On behalf of the coalition, Prime Minister and Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal and CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairperson Madhav Kumar Nepal jointly issued the appeal on Tuesday.

Defense Secretary Sharma calls on Indian Army Chief Pande

Secretary of the Ministry of Defense Kiran Raj Sharma has held a meeting with the Chief of Indian Army General Manoj Pande.

Secretary Pandey, who is on a visit to India, met Indian Army Chief Pande on Tuesday.

UML Chair Oli challenges PM Deuba to attend live debate

CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has challenged Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba to attend a election-focused ‘live debate’.

Stating that many people have asked him to attend a ‘live debate’ on social media on Tuesday, he said that he is ready for a debate based on the election agenda with Deuba.

Acknowledging that live debate was practiced in Western countries during elections, Oli wrote on Facebook, “I am ready for that, but what about Mr Deuba?”

EC’s sole effort to counter misinformation not enough: CEC Thapaliya

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya said that the task of regulating misinformation, propaganda and malicious expressions through social media in the upcoming elections is complex and the efforts of the Election Commission (EC) alone to counter them would not be sufficient.

Taking part in Election Integrity Summit organized by Facebook’s parent company Meta in Kathmandu on Tuesday, he clarified that the provisions in the election code of conduct for the regulation of misinformation, propaganda and hate speech during the election are based on good practices and studies of various democratic countries.

He added that the EC would leave no stone unturned to promote the overall integrity of the election.

NC forms sub-committees for electoral campaigns

Targeting the upcoming election to the House of Representatives (HoR) and Provincial Assembly elections slated for November 20, the ruling Nepali Congress (NC) has formed a secretariat and different sub-committees under the party’s Central Election Mobilization Committee.

The NC said the Committee held intensive talks for massive mobilization of party’s all mechanisms to make the candidates of NC and ruling alliance’s candidates in the federal and province assembly elections victorious.

The meeting has formed sister wings and well-wishers organization coordination and mobilization sub-committee; monitoring, evaluation and supervision sub-committee; election security bodies coordination sub-committee; foreign country-based Nepali Public Relations Committee coordination and mobilization sub-committee; election monitoring and discipline sub-committee; election commission coordination sub-committee; district-Kathmandu liaison committees coordination sub-committee and province mobilization coordination sub-committee.

The meeting was presided over by NC Central Election Mobilization Committee Coordinator Gopalman Shrestha.

Nepal sees 46 new coronavirus cases in past 24 hours

Nepal recorded a total of 46 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours as of Tuesday.

Of the confirmed cases, 42 were detected through the RT-PCR method and four through Antigen method.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, a total of 1,510 swab samples were tested in the past 24 hours.

Gold price rises by Rs 100 in domestic market today

The price of gold has increased by Rs 100 in the domestic market today.

According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the hallmark gold is being traded at Rs 93,400 per tola.
