Centenarian culture expert Satya Mohan Joshi passes away

Centenarian cultural expert Satya Mohan Joshi has passed away on Sunday.

He passed away at the age of 103 at KIST Medical College in Gwarko, Lalitpur at 7:09 am this morning.

Joshi was suffering from prostate and heart problems for a long time and recently he was also suffering from dengue infection.

He was diagnosed with chest pneumonia and heart rhythm problems along with dengue infection on October 9 .

A joint team of Prof. Dr. Milesh Jang Sijapati was working on his treatment.

Polls hold both opportunities, challenges for alliance: PM Deuba

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba said the upcoming elections are both opportunities and challenges for the present coalition to stabilize democracy and alleviate poverty in the country.

Addressing an election training session organized here by the left democratic alliance, Kathmandu constituency 2, on Sunday, he said, “All can be accommodated in the constitution. There is a need for the coalition to come together for the polls as there is no such context wherein a single party can get majority votes.”

There is a need for the alliance partners to unite, he added.

He also stressed the need for strengthening democracy in the country.

UML Chair Oli reached leadership position by cheating: Prachanda

Chairman of CPN (Maoist Center) Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has accused CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli of getting into the leadership by cheating.

Addressing an election training session organized here by the left democratic alliance, Kathmandu constituency 2, on Sunday, he said, “If CPN-UML was led by Oli during the peace agreement between the Maoists and the then government, federal democracy would not have come to the country and the 12-point agreement with the Maoists would not have been signed.”

He claimed that the main agenda of the country in the future will be development, construction and prosperity.

CPN Unified Socialist Chair Nepal appeals to voters to make alliance candidates victorious

Chairman of CPN (Unified Socialist) Madhav Kumar Nepal has said that the general voters should make the ruling alliance win in the upcoming House of Representatives and Provincial Assembly elections.

He said that the future of the ruling coalition lies with the common voters who should make the same coalition win.

Addressing an election training session organized here by the left democratic alliance, Kathmandu constituency 2, on Sunday, he argued, “Since the ruling alliance had saved the country from a major accident by safeguarding constitution and democracy, the people should make alliance candidates victorious.”

Gold price down by Rs 1,000 in domestic market

The price of gold has decreased by Rs 1,000 in the domestic market today.

According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the hallmark gold is being traded at Rs 93,100 per tola.

The price of the yellow metal was Rs 94,100 per tola on Friday.

SC order stays EC decision to scrap alliance candidate Gurung’s candidacy in Rupandehi 2

The Supreme Court has issued a temporary interim order for not implementing the election officer’s decision to scrap the candidacy of ruling alliance candidate Raju Gurung in Rupandehi-2.

A single bench of Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha on Sunday issued the provisional order after hearing the writ petition filed by Gurung on October 13.

Meanwhile, the court has summoned both petitioner and defendants for discussion on October 18.

Gurung’s candidacy was rescinded by the Election Officer Udbir Nepali on October 12 citing his conviction in a banking offense case.

Athlete dies in accident during cross-country paragliding

An athlete competing in the cross country event of paragliding under the 9th National Games died in a paragliding crash on Sunday morning.

Nisim Thapa of Tribhuvan Army Club died during a demonstration at 11:30 am on Sunday morning during a competition held at Sarangkot in Pokhara Metropolis-18.

Paragliding flights operating across country halted until further notice

The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has directed the concerned authorities to halt paragliding flights operating across the country until further notice following the death of a player in a paragliding accident during the Ninth National Games being held in Pokhara on Sunday.

CAAN Spokesperson Jagannath Niraula said that the authority has directed the concerned authorities to stop the paragliding flights until further notice.

Niraula said that the CAAN decided to stop the flights to further manage the adventure sport.

Nepal sees 32 new coronavirus cases in past 24 hours

Nepal recorded a total of 32 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours as of Sunday.

Of the confirmed cases, 28 were detected through the RT-PCR method and four through Antigen method.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, a total of 1,162 swab samples were tested in the past 24 hours.
