Province Government distributes relief to flood victims in Jumla

KATHMANDU: The Karnali Province Government has distributed relief materials to the victims of flooding and landslides in Jumla district.

A helicopter of the Nepali Army was used to supply the essential relief materials including blankets, soap, tarpaulins and tents that were distributed to the victims of the disasters in Hima, Sinja and Kanaka Sundari rural municipalities, said Rabin Thapa, Chief of the Nandabox Battalion, the Nepali Army.

Under the relief program, Kanaka Sundari Rural Municipality got four Chinese tarpaulins, 40 blankets and a container of soap.

Similarly, Sinja Rural Municipality received 25 tents, 25 blankets and 25 tarpaulins while Hima Rural Municipality 125 blankets, 125 tents, 60 tarpaulins and two cartons soap.

Relief materials were distributed to the victims with the assistance of the province government, said Chief District Officer Mukesh Kumar Keshari, adding that exact details of losses in the disaster are yet to come by.

Eight people were killed in the disaster at Kanaka Sundari Rural Municipality, said the rural municipality chair Damodar Acharya, adding that the collection of details of other property losses was underway.

Likewise, at least 386 houses at Hima Rural Municipality, and 51 at Sinja Rural Municipality were fully damaged due to incessant rain on October 5-11, said chair of the Sinja Rural Municipality Purna Prasad Dhital.
