Deepak Manange to be elected unopposed from Manang

Youth and Sports Minister of Gandaki Province, Rajeev Gurung ‘Deepak Manange’ will be elected unopposed as a member of the state assembly of Gandaki Province.

Manange was elected unopposed after the ruling five-party alliance and the opposition UML did not field a candidate in his constituency.

Floods and landslides claim 10 lives in Jumla

Floods and landslides triggered by incessant rainfall for the past one week have claimed 10 lives in Jumla.

One is still missing, Chief District Officer Mukesh Kumar Keshari informed.

He said eight people died when a home belonging to local Ganesh Shahi of Kanakasundari rural municipality-5 Barkotebada collapsed.

Election observers siding with parties, candidates not acceptable: Chief EC Thapaliya

Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya said it would not be acceptable for election observers to be siding with or going against any parties or candidates in the November 20 elections.

He referred to some past election incidents wherein some election observers sided with parties or candidates. He was inaugurating a training session for election observers for the election to the House of Representatives and the Province Assembly in Kathmandu on Wednesday.

Finance Minister Sharma participating in WB Conference in the US

Finance Minister Janardan Sharma is participating in the Annual Conference of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington DC.

The Annual Meeting of the World Bank is underway here in Washington D.C. It started from October 10 and will continue till October 16.

The Finance Minister is leading the Nepali delegation to the WB meeting.

Nov 20 election: 265 candidates in the fray in Kathmandu

A total of 265 candidates have filed their candidacies in 10 constituencies of Kathmandu in the November 20 House of Representatives elections.

UML withdraws candidacy in Chitwan-3; to support NC rebel candidate

CPN-UML has withdrawn its candidacy from Chitwan-3. UML withdrew its candidacy and supported the rebel candidate of the ruling coalition.

UML got its candidate Ram Prasad Neupane’s candidacy back to support NC rebel candidate Dinesh Koirala.

Koirala presented his candidacy against the coalition candidate Dr. Bhojraj Adhikari.

Dr. Adhikari is from the CPN-Maoist Center.

31 leaders, including members of UML Lumbini Pradesh Committee, quit party

As many as 31 CPN-UML leaders, including members of the party’s Lumbini State Committee, have quit the party.

The leaders led by Sanoj Kumar Yadav, outgoing chairman of Rohini Rural Municipality under Rupandehi Constituency-1 quit the party on Wednesday.

Yadav, who was elected as village chief from the Nepali Congress in the last elections, had joined the UML before the local elections.

Nepal sees 51 new coronavirus cases in past 24 hours

Nepal recorded a total of 51 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours as of Wednesday.

Of the confirmed cases, 45 were detected through the RT-PCR method and six through the Antigen method.

Bagmati province reports over 27,000 dengue cases

Twenty-seven thousand 750 people have been infected with dengue in Bagmati province since July 17 till date, the Bagmati Province Health Directorate said.

Likewise, 21 persons in the province have died due to dengue infection. It is said out of 13 districts of the province, Kathmandu is the worst-affected while Rasuwa is the least affected. Kathmandu reports 11,467 dengue cases and Rasuwa seven cases so far.

Nepal’s economic growth will reach 4.2 percent and price growth 8.1 percent this year: IMF

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has projected that Nepal’s economy (Gross Domestic Product) will grow by 4.2 percent in the current financial year.

Making the projection public on World Economic Outlook, the IMF predicted that Nepal’s economy will grow by 5 percent in 2023 and only 5.3 percent by 2027.

Only 57 parties taking part in HoR, PA elections: Election Commission

Only 57 political parties have filed nominations towards the first-past-the-post system under the elections to the House of Representatives (HoR) and the Province Assembly (PA).

The voting for the twin elections is taking place on coming November 20 in a single phase. Earlier 86 political parties registered at the Election Commission (EC) for the election purpose.

Nine guides, porters in Dhaulagiri avalanche rescued

At least nine guides and porters were caught up in an avalanche and were later rescued from the Base Camp of the Dhaulagiri Mountain in Myagdi district.

The guides and porters who met with the disaster are identified as Maikal Pariyar, Kiran Pariyar, Santosh Tamang, Dhanram Tamang, Buddhi, Prakash, Kumar, Bir Bahadur and Sukalal Pariyar were rescued on a helicopter to Takam, said Maikal.
