NC Koirala faction’s vigilance assembly underway in New Baneshwor

KATHMANDU: Dr Sekhar Koirala faction of the Nepali Congress (NC) is holding a “vigilance assembly” at Baneshwor Banquet in Thapagaon, New Baneshwor, Kathmandu, on Saturday.

The faction said it was holding the gathering to warn the establishment faction to apportion just amount of election tickets to the anti-establishment faction within the party.

Central members, district presidents, leaders of party’s fraternal organizations and aspirants for the November 20 elections are participating in the assembly. However, leader Dr Koirala and NC office bearers close to him are not attending the meeting.

Leaders participating in the meeting have protested the establishment side’s unilateral selection of proportional representative (PR) candidates for the upcoming elections.

They viewd that leaders who have since long dedicated their lives to the party have been sidelined by the establishment faction. They added that NC would not have to rely on the coalition if the party moved ahead unitedly.

They emphasized keeping the people and cadres at the center of the election agenda.

The division within the NC has arisen as seat distribution among the ruling coalition partners is getting trickier.

The Koirala faction has demanded at least 40 percent of the seats in House of Representatives and Provincial Assembly elections to the faction in the upcoming elections.

The faction warned the establishment faction that if they are not treated fairly, even the alliance would face various difficulties.
