NAWALPARASI: Nawalparasi (Bardaghat-Susta East) district has turned to be self-sufficient on milk, meat and egg.
The production of milk, meat and egg of the district has exceeded the total demand and excess quantity has been supplied to other districts.
According to Chief of Veterinary Hospital and Livestock Service Expert Centre Dr Rishabh Guragain, Nawalpur has produced 281 liters of milk per person per year against the need of 91 liters.
With this, the annual milk production has exceeded 190 liters in the district.
As per the last year data, Nawalpur had produced 107,190 metric tons of milk while total demand of milk was only 34,680 metric tons.
The excess production has been supplied to other districts. Guragain shared that the office has also been providing grants based on production quantity of milk.
The government subsidy has been distributed on per liter of milk from collection centre being operated on cooperative model.
Likewise, Nawalpur district has also become self-reliant on meat production. As per the last fiscal year’s data, Nawlpur had produced a total of 12,490 metric tons of meat while total demand was 7,155 metric tons n the district.
Office In-charge Guragain informed that there was a demand of 14-kg meat per person per annum while production was 32.7-kg.
In comparison to the population and per person need, the district has excess production of eggs.
When there was per person per annum demand of 48 eggs, the production was 90 per person.
On the basis of the per person need, the district has more than enough production of eggs and excess production has been supplied to other districts.
Even the production of fish is satisfactory in the district. However, per person need of the fish has yet to be calculated in the district, he said.
“Even fish production is being supplied to other districts”.
Last year, the district had produced a total of 933 metric tons of fish. Presently total number of fish ponds in the district is 1,517, the office said.
Farmers’ attraction has increased to fish-keeping, livestock and other agro production enterprises in the district with the government incetive in place.
There is no problem of market for milk, meat, fish and egg production in the district, the office shared.
