Current sessions of both Houses expiring today midnight

Current sessions of both Houses (the House of Representations and the National Assembly) of the Federal Parliament are expiring today midnight (12:00 am).

President Bidya Devi Bhandari at the recommendation of the Council of Ministers has ended the House sessions as per the Constitution of Nepal.

With this, the NA meeting scheduled for September 18 will be automatically cancelled, according to a notice issued by the NA.

Pre-booking of tickets for Dashain opens from today

The pre-booking of tickets for people going back home for Dashain festival from Kathmandu has opened from today.

The government has opened the pre-booking of tickets in consultation with the transport entrepreneurs for long and medium-route vehicles.

A significantly large number of people will leave Kathmandu leading to a rise in the number of passengers.

Hence, the advance booking of tickets has been opened almost two weeks before the festivals start.

Parliament session prorogued: Speaker reads out President’s letter to this effect

The current session of the House of Representatives has come to an end with a new parliament set to be elected on November 20.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari prorogued the current session of the House of Representatives from midnight tonight as per the recommendation of the Council of Ministers.

Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota read out the President’s letter announcing the end of the Parliament session at the House of Representatives meeting on Saturday.

The top leaders of the party addressed the meeting of the House of Representatives on Saturday.

PM Deuba wishes Indian PM Modi on his 72nd birthday

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba extended greetings to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his 72nd birthday on Saturday.

“On the occasion of your birthday, best wishes for good health and long life, Prime Minister @narendramodi. May Shri Pashupatinath always protect you,” tweeted Deuba.

Parliament committee recommends impeaching suspended CJ Rana

A majority of the Impeachment Recommendation Committee lawmakers recommended the impeachment of the suspended Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana.

In the 11-member impeachment panel, six lawmakers from the ruling coalition favored the impeachment of Rana and passed a proposal on the basis of a majority.

Meanwhile, five members from CPN-UML and Loktrantrik Samajbadi Party (LSP) differed from the majority on impeaching Rana.

UML organizes walkathon to celebrate Constitution Day

CPN-UML has organized a walkathon to mark the completion of the seven years of the federal republic Constitution day on Saturday.

UML leaders and cadres walked from various places in the capital to converge at Basantpur. Processions were taken out from Baneshwar, Maitidevi, Lainchour, Kalimati and Kupandol.

UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli, Senior Vice President Ishwar Pokharel, General Secretary Shankar Pokharel and other top leaders joined the walkathon.

Flood and landslide death toll reaches 17 in Achham

The Sudurpaschim Province has been badly affected by the landslides and floods caused by the incessant rainfall. Achham district has incurred huge loss of lives and properties.

Officiating Chief District Officer in Achham, Dipesh Rijal, informed that 17 persons were confirmed dead in the landslides occurred at different parts of the district. Similarly, 11 persons injured in the incidents were rescued and airlifted to Surkhet for treatment.

Flood inundates various settlements in Bardiya

Different settlements in Bardiya district have been inundated due to floods in rivers and rivulets following the incessant rainfall since Wednesday.

Flooded rivers and streams at Rajapur and Thakurbaba municipalities in the district have inundated the settlements.

Chief District Officer Shambhu Prasad Banstola shared that with the increase of water-level in Karnali River, 30 families of Bajuroli Tole at Rajapur-7, and 25 families of Thakurbaba Municipality-5 and 7 were shifted to safer places.

The Babai River has crossed the danger level due to continuous rainfall in Bardiya and its vicinity.

Innovation in science create jobs: PM Deuba

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has asserted that innovation in the field of science create massive jobs.

At a program organized by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MoEST) on the occasion of 10th National Science Day here today, PM Deuba assured that the government was committed towards development of science, technology, production of scientific human resources, innovations and their protection.

‘Science and technology lead society to equality and justice’

CPN Maoist Center Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ said science and technology was instrumental to take the society to equity, socialism and justice.

Dahal said so while addressing a program organized on the occasion of the 10th Science Day in the capital on Saturday.

“Science advocates for truth and factual things and stands for equality and justice,” he argued.

Oli government lacks memorable achievement: Unified Socialist leader Khanal

Respected leader of CPN (Unified Socialist) Jhalnath Khanal has said that the KP Oli led government did not have any memorable achievement.

Addressing at the last meeting of the House of Representatives on Saturday, Khanal said the Oli government could not do anything although it had a relatively peaceful opposition.

Comparing the Oli government to the government led by the first communist Prime Minister Manmohan Adhikari, Khanal alleged Oli-led two-thirds majority government was unable to do anything worth remembering.

“Though Manmohan Adhikari’s government was a minority one, we still remember the leader through programs such as ‘Build your own village’ and ‘Honor to senior citizens’ among others,” Khanal said.

“What was a memorable work of Oli government that was 10 to 20 times more stronger than Manmohan Adhikari’s?” he questioned.
